The Wye Strings Competition consists of a significant scholarship and an opportunity to play with the Wye Strings Ensemble in the following spring. ( For example, the winner of the competition in 2009, will play with the orchestra in the spring of 2010.) The winner shall be chosen on the advice of Adjudicator recommendations.

For the competition, the selection shall not exceed 30 (thirty) minutes. ( When playing with the orchestra, the final decision of how many movements that will be played will be made in consultation with the Director of Wye Strings Ensemble)

The selection of the concerto should be compatible to play with a string orchestra. During the competition of Festival week, piano accompaniment will be acceptable.

Selections of repertoire could be chosen from the following composers: Bach, Vivaldi, Handel, Purcell Corelli, Torelli or their contemporaries
Haydn, Beethoven or Mozart or their contemporaries could be selected provided that the orchestra score is suited for strings only.

In order to create interest in diversity of instruments and repertoire, the disciplines of this award will be rotated in the following order:

Vocal 2010 - Woodwind 2011 - Piano 2012
